Some of these superfoods are actually not new, but we don’t eat them as often as we should because we don’t know about their powerful health benefits. I’m always on the lookout for new superfoods and here are nine foods worth eating more.
1. Matcha
Matcha green tea powder is underrated these days. This affordable superfood helps boost your energy, improve your overall health and reduce your risk of cancer. Matcha is an excellent source of potent antioxidants, chlorophyll, amino acids, and vitamins. It contains L-theanine that helps increase your brain power. You can use matcha green tea powder in cakes, cookies, cocktails, smoothies and even add a pinch to your salad.
2. Black rice
White or brown rice is a great choice, but have you ever tried black rice? Known as forbidden rice, black rice is a superfood everyone should be eating today.
It has one of the highest levels of antioxidants knows as anthocyanin, also found in blueberries and blackberries. Black rice is not expensive so you can easily incorporate it into your eating plan. Black rice is especially good for your heart.
3. Incaberries
Looking for a healthy, tasty and unusual snack? Give incaberries a try!
These berries are fortified with vitamins, including vitamin B12, vitamin A, and vitamin C. Incaberries have a high protein content, which means you will feel fuller quicker. These little golden berries are also a great source of bioflavonoids that help improve your overall health. I use dried incaberries in homemade trail mix and fruit salads. You can also use incaberries in cookies.
4. Fermented foods
Fermented foods are a wonderful source of live cultures, minerals and healthy enzymes. They are good for your digestion and immune system.
Fermented foods provide good bacteria to your guts that help to maintain a healthy and balanced gut microbiota. Add fermented foods, such as miso, tempeh, yogurt, sauerkraut or kombucha, to your meal plan to reap all of their benefits.
5. Coconut flour
Coconut is a superfood itself. Many of us use coconut butter and oil, drink coconut water and milk.
Sometimes I also use coconut vinegar instead of apple cider vinegar. Nowadays people start using coconut flour too. Coconut flour has a higher fiber content than all-purpose flour and it’s rich in protein as well. Coconut flour is light and fluffy and is perfect for pancakes.
6. Dandelion greens
One of the most overlooked superfoods ever is certainly dandelion greens. Actually, this one is not a new superfood to me because my grandma taught me to consume dandelion greens whenever it’s possible.
However, it may be a new superfood that you’ve never thought of using in your salads. Dandelion greens helps detoxify your liver and improve your digestive system. They are rich in vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin K, B vitamins, calcium, iron, fibre and manganese. If you don’t want to use dandelion greens in your salads, add them to your green smoothies instead.
7. Sprouted foods
Sprouted foods doesn’t look and taste good, but they boast fantastic benefits. They are rich in B vitamins, protein and essential minerals such potassium, calcium and iron.
You don’t need to eat sprouted grains, though. You can use sprouted flour instead of all-purpose or whole grain flour, and opt for a sprouted grain bread that is healthier than white bread. You can also cook sprouted grains and use as a healthy side dish.
8. Hemp oil
Hemp oil is tastier and healthier than vegetable oil and olive oil. It has a delicate taste and contains more omega-3 fatty acids than olive oil.
To reap all its health benefits, it’s best to use hemp oil in salad dressings and dips. Moreover, this type of oil is too delicate to be heated. I use hemp oil in pesto too.
9. Brussels sprouts
One of the most obvious reasons why Brussels sprouts are considered a superfood is because they help fight cancer. Brussels sprouts are rich in vitamin C and vitamin K. One serving contains around 28 milligrams of calcium, 156 micrograms of vitamin K and 85 milligrams of vitamin C. Brussels sprouts are also high in vitamin B6, fibre, potassium, and iron. There are many Brussels sprouts recipes so you will definitely find a few favorite ones.
There are many health, beauty and weight loss benefits of eating superfoods. They are budget-friendly, tasty and easy to use. You can use any of these superfoods without drastically changing your eating habits. You will improve your health, skin, and increase your energy levels. Your eating habits play an important role in how you feel and how long you will live. Remember it. Which superfoods do you eat on a daily basis?
