Home Remedies For Strong Nails
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is very nourishing for weak and brittle nails. The saturated fat in coconut oil works as a great moisturizer. It will also prevent many kinds of nail infections.
Slightly warm some coconut oil and apply it on each nail. Massage gently and thoroughly for five minutes. This will improve blood circulation and keep the nails moisturized. Follow this remedy two to three times daily.
Another option is to mix one-quarter cup of warm coconut oil and a little lemon juice in a bowl. Soak your nails in this solution for 10 minutes before going to bed. Wear gloves overnight for best results.
Follow either of these remedies for several weeks until your nails become healthy and strong.
Along with coconut oil, you can also use olive oil to treat brittle nails.
Olive Oil Soak
Seriously is there no end to the benefits of good ol’ olive oil? It’s truly the most versatile ingredient and one which is likely to be sitting in your kitchen right now! Not only is it well known for its ability to both lower cholesterol and effectively moisturise the skin and hair but it is also highly capable of penetrating, repairing and ultimately strengthening your nails!
Simply soak your nails in extra virgin olive oil for 10 minutes a day and watch the magic happen!
Tomatoes
Tomatoes are one of the best sources of nail-strengthening vitamins A and C, as well as the natural form of B7 (also known as Biotin) which is essential for healthy hair, skin, and nails.
Have a glass of organic tomato juice in the morning to start your day off with more energy, add a few slices of fresh tomato to salads and sandwiches, and include more foods with tomato paste or sauce in your diet. Your nails will thank you!
Blackstrap Molasses
Blackstrap molasses is a bittersweet syrup that was a popular natural sweetener until the late 19th century when table sugar stole the spotlight. Unlike most popular sweeteners, blackstrap molasses is actually good for you as it still contains the vitamins and minerals naturally found in the cane sugar plant – nutrients which are stripped away during the refining process used to create white sugar.
For healthier nails, add a tablespoon of blackstrap molasses to warm water, tea, or another beverage of your choice. Drink 1 – 2 times daily for best results.
Diabetics beware: Despite its health benefits, blackstrap molasses will still have an effect on blood sugar!
Vitamin E Oil
Often the main culprit behind brittle nails is lack of moisture. Vitamin E oil is a great remedy to keep your nails moisturized and hydrated. It will also help strengthen and nourish your nails and cuticles.
Break open a vitamin E capsule to extract the oil.
Apply the oil on your nails before going to bed.
Massage gently for five minutes to help increase circulation to the nail bed.
Do this daily for one or two weeks to notice a change in your nails.
For added benefits, you can also take vitamin E capsules orally.
Horsetail
Another herb known for its ability to promote stronger, healthier nail growth is horsetail (also known as shavegrass.) Like nettle leaf, horsetail contains high concentrations of nail-strengthening vitamins and minerals.
To make this tea, steep ½ – 1 teaspoon of dried organic horsetail in a cup of boiling water for at least 10 minutes. Sweeten to taste and enjoy once daily for best results.
